Monster Characteristics:
Carnivores that prowl Oilwell Basin. Their
skulls have evolved in a way that lets them
expand and contract the plating, and lunge
at prey with hammer-like blows. They hunt
Gelidron and keep their packs small. There
have been accounts of Kranodath engaging
larger monsters while feeding, where they
cling to the enemy's skull and stun it with
repeated head bashes.
Kranodath are aggressive carnivores native to the Oilwell Basin. They are pack hunters that primarily prey on Gelidron, though they will attack Hunters without hesitation, as well as Large Monsters, which they'll cling to the head of and repeatedly bash until stunning it.
Kranodath are covered in black scales with faint purple hues along their underside. Their forearms and hind legs each end in three black claws, adapted for gripping and tearing at flesh. Their teeth are a lighter shade of black, long and sharply curved—angled forward like hooked blades to better tear chunks of meat, which they swallow whole as they lack the ability to chew. Their most striking feature is their cranial anatomy: tiny blue eyes with black pupils are almost hidden beneath a bulging red brow. This brow is a specialized muscle structure that controls a set of folding head plates. Normally these plates rest folded back, exposing raw muscle tissue beneath. However, when extended forward, the plates lock into place and form a hammer-like structure that both shields the head and serves as a brutal weapon.
Kranodath hunt cooperatively in small packs. Their primary method of attack is to slam their hammer-like plating into prey, stunning or disorienting it before carrying it away to be torn into and eaten. They are also known to jab with their reinforced heads, smashing repeatedly until their quarry falls. When confronting Hunters, Kranodath display relentless aggression, charging, leaping, and delivering devastating headbutts with their cranial plating.
