Monster Characteristics:
Winged wyverns that are identifiable by the
long, sharp horn on their heads—which just
so happen to make great Slinger ammo.
Large as the Harpios may be, they never
attack hunters, choosing instead to stay by
the water and prey on fish. On occasions
when large fish scare the smaller ones to
the surface, you might even get to see a
bona fide Harpios feeding frenzy.
Harpios are a species of Wingdrake adapted to both the Scarlet Forest and the Oilwell Basin. Piscivorous by nature, they pose no threat to hunters and are generally docile, preferring to spend their time cleaning their wings or diving into water in search of prey.
Harpios have striking blue eyes with black pupils and rows of sharp, black canine-like teeth. Their bodies are a vivid blue, patterned with darker splashes across the torso, and marked by a yellow stripe running from the eyes down its body. A prominent horn sits at the tip of their beak-like face, with a crest like fin extending back from the head. This crest shifts in colour—blue at the base, fading to yellow and black. Their underwings are patterned with dark and light blue whilst the top is mostly dark blue with lighter blue towards the back ends. Midway along each wing are three yellow webbed claws, which aid them in swimming. They also possess four webbed feet of the same colour. Their tails are broad and flat with webbing to further assist underwater manoeuvring. When grounded, Harpios are often seen preening their wings.
Harpios are expert fish hunters. They dive into rivers and lakes, lowering their snout horn so that it functions as an extension of their beak. With this natural spear, they impale Sushifish before rising into the air, tossing their catch skyward, and snapping it out of the air with precision. If threatened, Harpios do not retaliate; instead, they swiftly take to the skies and retreat to safety. Hunters, however, can obtain Piercing Pods by striking their snout horn with a Hook Slinger.
