Monster Characteristics:
Winged wyverns that inhabit the Windward
Plains. Rather than do their own hunting,
they use their high vantage to scavenge
carrion. Baunos take shelter to avoid the
lightning during an Inclemency. When
a little intimidation is called for, they
vibrate their thorax feathers to create
a deafening roar. You can get screamer pods
from them with the Hook Slinger.
Baunos are generally docile and avoid conflict with hunters unless provoked. They are known for producing a piercing cry through specialized echo feathers, which can be harvested to create Screamer Pods. These creatures typically inhabit open plains, where their vocalizations carry over long distances.
Baunos display dark navy plumage accented with red along the underside and a single turquoise stripe that runs from the beak to the diaphragm. Their eyes are a vivid orange with round black pupils, while the eyelids close from the beak outward—an unusual trait among flying wyverns. Each wing bears three clawed digits, and the feet carry two elongated talons flanked by shorter ones. Their beaks are sharp and tooth-like, adapted for both feeding and defense. A long, slender tail ends in a plume of feathers.
When threatened, Baunos strike with their beak, using swift jabs to ward off attackers. Their echo feathers can be vibrated to unleash a deafening roar, disorienting foes. Hunters have noted that striking these feathers with a Hook Slinger can provide an opportunity to collect Screamer Pods.
